Sun Kissed Style

Yellow.

It’s the color of daisies and sunflowers, mustard and marigolds, and of course our almighty Sun. It’s a colour that tells us spring is already here and that summer is just around the bend. It’s a colour that lights up a room, and brightens our outlook, yet yellow can be tough for many to wear. This spring, yellow is one of the biggest colour trends for the season. Even so, how do you incorporate it into your wardrobe without looking like a banana?

The first step is to find a yellow hue that works well with your skin tone and one that you’re comfortable in. Most people steer clear of the colour because they find it too bright or loud. However, there is a whole spectrum of yellow from more neutral butter colours, to brighter lemon yellows, to intense golds and everything in between.

The yellow you chose should bring you some upbeat energy and a happy vibe. If it doesn’t, leave it and move on. Right now, you can find so many pieces in this colour, it is easy to find one simple item that you can add to your wardrobe. If wearing a yellow dress is too bold for you, opt for a yellow accessory, such as a bag or shoes, or even a belt. You will find that yellow can even replace some neutrals. For example instead of a pair of khakis, you can opt for a light butter yellow pair of pants. It pairs well with navy, other yellows, green, black, white and red. Here I have layered a golden spring trench coat with a deeper marigold colour.

For a softer look, more summery look, I paired this vintage linen jacket with creams and beiges.

If full on yellow is still too much for you, a print that incorporates the colour such as the scarf or a bag as featured below can add a touch of brightness to a more traditional look.
