Deciem - An Anti-Aging Mecca
About six weeks ago, on the suggestion of a friend, I ventured into an unassuming store on Prince Street in NYC called DECIEM The Abnormal Beauty Company. Aside from the fact the store looked like a warehouse under construction, (no sugary pinks or frilly girly decor here - thank goodness,) I wondered what is so abnormal about this beauty company? I was lucky enough to have one of the team members walk me through every product in the store. What I found was an abundance of anti-aging and skincare products in a range of prices, some down right dirt cheap.
DECIEM is a Canadian company that started in 2013. (Last July the company entered into a partnership with Estee Lauder.) They house several brands of skincare: NIOD, HYLAMIDE, THE CHEMISTRY BRAND, THE ORDINARY, LOOPHA, FOUNTAIN, HIF and AB CREW. Most of their anti-aging products can be found in the form of serums. The most inexpensive brand is THE ORDINARY which has a variety of retinol based serums starting for as little as $5.80.
I opted to try their HYLAMIDE SubQ Anti-Aging Advanced Serum which had a mix of anti-aging ingredients including 5 hyaluronic compounds, peptides, and other ingredients mixed into a powerful cocktail meant to help with fine lines, sagging skin and wrinkles. It set me back $38, half of what most high end anti-aging creams cost. I was all in.
I have been using this serum twice a day on my face and neck for about six weeks now. I have noticed my skin is smoother, and have some reduction to my frown lines. My main concern was my neck, as the return of my chicken skin was getting me down. (You can see why by the first picture below.) Patience is not a virtue I possess, but using these products does require you to stay the course, so begrudgingly, I did.
It seems I am finally (slowly) transforming back into a human, from a piece of poultry. I still have a ways to go, but will continue to use the Hylamide serum, and probably add a couple more of their products to my routine.
In recent months, the company has found itself in the middle of some controversy, thanks to its founder posting odd Instagram rants. Let's hope it all sorts itself out, as it would be a shame if a company with great and affordable products that work, would cease to exist. But just in case, I plan on stockpiling some of this stuff while I still can! They have several locations, but you can easily order their products online at www.deciem.com.
