Smart and Chic Travel - Part II-Cargos
No matter what season it is, whenever I travel, I do so in one, and only one type of pant - cargos.
I would often hit the road wearing leggings, as they were the most comfortable option when sitting on a plane for several hours. Time after time, I would find myself juggling my boarding passes, phone (for any flight updates or changes) and passport, along with my luggage. Jeans, the next logical option (since they have pockets), didn’t offer the comfort of leggings and their pockets were not as useful as one would think. Passports and documents stick out of small back pockets and can get easily bent when you try to sit. Then, I discovered cargo pants. I had that “a-ha moment” and never turned back. Cargo pants afford me one convenient option, the others don’t - the side leg pocket. This pocket plays a crucial role in helping me glide through ticketing, security and boarding. It is where I can safely and conveniently stash my passport, boarding pass and/or phone without them falling out or getting squished. Having those items easily accessible makes travelling much simpler. I no longer have to search to find them, and they’re not being damaged in the process. I also feel good knowing that my essential documents are on my person at all times. This may sound a bit morose, but should the plane go down, my ID is on my person, so my body can be identified; should we have to abandon ship, I have my passport to get me home; should my bags be stolen, I still have my docs.
Right now cargo pants are having a resurgence and a variety of styles can be found just about everywhere. Today’s cargos also come in a variety of fabrics, many of them cotton with lycra, which gives them enough stretch to make sitting in them for hours extremely comfortable. These cargos from Zara are as comfortable as a pair of leggings and I can wear them with any type of footwear from sneakers to boots. I also have linen cargo pants that I utilize in the summer when travelling to places where excessive summer heat awaits me. It’s a great way to look chic and travel smart.
